Australia completed the highest run chase in T-20 Cricket history

  • Australia completed the highest run chase in Twenty20 history to beat New Zealand by five wickets and maintain their unbeaten record in the T20 tri-series at Eden Park in Auckland on February 16, 2018.
  • The Black Caps (New Zealand) set an imposing target of 244 on the back of opener Martin Guptill’s century but the Australians overhauled it with seven balls to spare.
  • Australia’s total of 245 for five exceeds the previous record chase of 244 scored by India against the West Indies in 2016.
  • Guptill also became international T20’s highest run-scorer after making 105 off 54 balls. During his innings, Guptill overtook McCullum’s mark ot 2140 to be the highest run-scorer in the history of T20 Internationals. He has 2188 career runs.
  • Guptill’s 49-ball century was also New Zealand’s fastest T20 ton.
  • Australia’s score is the highest winning total in the second innings of not just T20 international cricket, but all 20-over cricket including the domestic level.
