Australia wins Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey title 10th times

  • Australia beat defending champions England by 2-1 margin and lifted the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey title.
  • The final match was played at Ipoh, Malaysia on March 10, 2018.
  • Australia have now won the prestigious tournament for the 10th time.
  • Argentina finished third after beating Malaysia 3-2. The hosts Malaysia ended at the 4th spot.
  • India finished a disappointed fifth in the six-nation tournament.
  • In the classification match for the fifth and sixth places today, India defeated Ireland 4-1.
  • India had bowed out of the medal race, when they suffered a 2-3 loss against the same opponents in the last round robin match on March 9.
  • India has won this tournament five times, including co-winner in 2010. India has won this tournament in 1985, 1991, 1995 and 2009 and shared the trophy in 2010.
  • The first Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament was held in 1983 and Australia was the inaugural winner of the tournament.
