India finishes third with 66 medals at 21st Commonwealth Games

  • The 21st commonwealth games were at held at Gold Coast, Australia between 4-15 April 2018.
  • The game ended on April 15 with colourful ceremony with legendary Indian boxer MC Mery Kom leading Indian delegation carrying tricolour.
  • Indian competitors ended their campaign in the eleven day event on the third place, with 66 medals including 26 Gold, 20 Silver and 20 Bronze medals. India has won 39 Gold medals in 2010 Delhi Commonwealth games.
  • Australia stood first in the medal tally with 198 medals including 80 Gold, 59 Silver and 59 Bronze followed by England 136 medals.
  • On the final day today, India won seven medals which include one Gold, Four Silver and two Bronze. The lone Gold came in women’s singles Badminton, in which star shuttlers P V Sindhu and Saina Nehal were pitted against each other in the final. Saina had earlier claimed the singles Gold in the 2010 Delhi Games also.
  • Beach Volleyball, Para Triathlon and Women’s Rugby Sevens made their Commonwealth Games debuts and for the first time at a Commonwealth Games, an equal number of men’s and women’s medal events will be contested.
