Election Commission sets up ‘Sangwari’ polling booths in Chhattisgarh to encourage women voters

  • The Election Commission of India has announced to set up ‘Sangwari’ polling booths in various constituencies of Chhattisgarh to encourage women voters to exercise their franchise in the Assembly elections.
  • In Chhattisgarhi dialect, ‘Sangwari’ means friend. These women friendly booths will be manned by all-female staff including presiding officers, supervisors and security personnel.
  • As per the Chief Electoral Officer of the state, Subrat Sahoo, five Sangwari Polling Centres have been set up for women in every assembly segments.
  • Chhattisgarh has about One crore 85 lakh electorates. Out of this, more than 92 lakh are females. The state has 90 constituencies and assembly elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 12th and 20th
