Aruna Budda Reddy becomes first Indian to win individual medal at Gymnastics World Cup

  • Aruna Budda Reddy of Hyderabad has created history by becoming the first Indian to win an individual medal at the Gymnastics World Cup.
  • She clinched a Bronze in the Women’s Vault event in Melbourne on 24 February 2018.
  • She scored 13.649 average points to finish third while Tjasa Kysslef of Slovania took home the Gold, while Emily Whitehead of Australia won the Silver.
  • According to the Gymnastics Federation of India, Aruna is now the first and the only Indian to have won a medal in the World Cup.
  • Dipa Karmakar, who finished fourth in the 2016 Rio Olympics in women’s vault event, has won a bronze each in the Asian Championships and 2014 Commonwealth Games but not at the world cup.
