Times Higher Education’s ‘Asia University Rankings 2018

  • As per the Times Higher Education’s (THE) ‘Asia University Rankings 2018, 42 Indian Univercities have find place in top 350 Univercities of Asia which is more than 9 to last year. Ranking was released on February 6, 2018.
  • Last year 33 Indian universities were ranked in top 350 universities.
  • Seven universities from India are ranked among the top 100.
  • Among Indian Univercities, the Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore remained at top, with overall ranking of 29 (in Asia). But it lost two place compare to last year.
  • The worry part is that, several of Indian institutions have slid in the rankings of 350 top universities in Asia. Apart from IISc which ranking dipped by two places, IIT Bombay have also dropped two places to 44th.
  • Among the best Indian institutions, IIT Madras saw the biggest decline in the top 200, dropping 41 places to 103rd, while IIT Delhi’s ranking too dropped by 32 positions. As per the report rankings were suffered due to fall in their citation impact scores.
  • National University of Singapore is top ranked university in Asia, followed by Tsinghua University and Peking University, China.
  • This year two new Indian univercities, namely: Indian School of Mines (141st) and Banaras Hindu University at joint (194th) have joined in top 200 list.
