18th edition of the Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference

The 18th edition of the Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2025 was inaugurated on 7 November 2025 by Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs and Power, in Gurugram, Haryana.

  • The three-day event is jointly organized by:
    • Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India
    • Government of Haryana, through:
      • Institute of Urban Transport (India)
      • Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL)

Theme and Focus

  • The 2025 edition focuses on ‘Urban Development and Mobility Nexus’, emphasizing:
    • Integration of urban planning with mobility systems
    • Impact on economic growth
    • Environmental sustainability
    • Social equity and public health
  • The conference serves as a platform for policy makers, planners, researchers, and industry experts to discuss innovative solutions for sustainable urban mobility.

Urban Transport Highlights

  • India’s metro network currently spans nearly 1,100 km, making it the third-largest metro system in the world.
  • According to the Union Minister, India is poised to become the second-largest metro network globally in the near future, reflecting the country’s rapid urban transport expansion.
