28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC)

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) on 15 January 2026 at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi.

Theme of the Conference

  • The main theme of the 28th CSPOC is “Effective Delivery of Parliamentary Democracy.”
  • The conference focuses on strengthening democratic institutions, parliamentary practices, and governance across Commonwealth nations.

About CSPOC

  • The Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) is a major forum that brings together presiding officers of legislatures from Commonwealth countries.
  • It provides a platform for sharing experiences, best practices, and challenges related to parliamentary democracy.

India as the Host

  • This is the fourth time that India has hosted the CSPOC, highlighting India’s long-standing engagement with the Commonwealth and its parliamentary traditions.

Chair and Participation

  • The 28th CSPOC was chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla.
  • The conference was attended by:
    • 61 Speakers and Presiding Officers
    • From 42 Commonwealth countries
    • Along with representatives of 4 semi-autonomous parliaments
  • Participants came from diverse regions across the world.
