4th Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS)

At the 4th Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS) held in Rome, Italy, from September 11-12, 2025, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) reaffirmed India’s commitment to enhancing global maritime governance and positioning itself as a key partner for safer, cleaner, and more secure seas.

India to Host 5th CGGS in 2027

ICG announced its intention to bid for the Presidency of the 5th CGGS, which is planned to be hosted in India in 2027, underlining the country’s proactive role in shaping international maritime agendas.

Summit Attendance and Themes

The summit was attended by delegates from 115 countries and international organisations, co-chaired by Italy and Japan. It emphasised collective approaches to safeguarding the global ocean environment and highlighted key areas such as:

  • Marine Pollution Response
  • Maritime Search and Rescue
  • Maritime Law Enforcement

About the Coast Guard Global Summit

First convened in 2017 by the Japan Coast Guard and the Nippon Foundation, the CGGS has evolved into a vital platform for dialogue and confidence-building among coast guards worldwide.

Key Remarks

The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, and the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba (virtually), highlighted the importance of international Coast Guard collaboration to ensure safety, security, and environmental protection in global waters.
