86th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC)

The 86th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) commenced on 19 January in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The three-day national conference was inaugurated by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Anandiben Patel.

Keynote Address by Lok Sabha Speaker
Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla delivered the keynote address at the inaugural session. He emphasised the responsibility of Presiding Officers to ensure that all members of the House, particularly new and young legislators, are given adequate opportunities to participate in proceedings.

Focus on Strengthening Legislatures
Shri Birla underlined that inclusive and fair functioning of legislatures is essential for ensuring that they remain the most effective forum for voicing the issues and concerns of the people.

Wide Participation from Across the Country
The Conference is witnessing participation from:

  • Presiding Officers of 28 State Legislative Assemblies
  • 3 Union Territories
  • 6 Legislative Councils

This broad representation reflects the pan-India character of the Conference.

Uttar Pradesh Hosts AIPOC for the Fourth Time
This is the fourth occasion that Uttar Pradesh is hosting the prestigious All India Presiding Officers’ Conference. Earlier editions were held in the State in:

  • December 1961
  • October 1985
  • January–February 2015
