8th edition of Jan Aushadhi Diwas

The 8th edition of Jan Aushadhi Diwas was celebrated in New Delhi on March 7, 2026, marking the culmination of the week-long Janaushadhi Saptah 2026 campaign aimed at promoting affordable and quality generic medicines.

During the event, 13 top-performing owners of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) from different states, including three from Delhi, were felicitated for their outstanding contribution to the scheme.

The celebrations were organised by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, which functions under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.

  • Conducted from March 1 to March 7, 2026 across the country.
  • Aimed at raising awareness about the availability and benefits of affordable generic medicines.
  • Included outreach programmes, awareness campaigns, and public engagement activities nationwide.

About the Scheme

The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) was launched in November 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with Central Pharma Public Sector Undertakings.

Objective of PMBJP:

  • Provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices.
  • Reduce the out-of-pocket expenditure on healthcare for citizens.
  • Ensure wider availability of medicines through dedicated outlets known as Janaushadhi Kendras across the country.

Every year, March 7 is observed as Jan Aushadhi Diwas to encourage the use of generic medicines and promote affordable healthcare access in India.
