Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) Amount

The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has released ₹18.3 lakh to Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) in Uttar Pradesh and Sikkim as part of the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) mechanism.

  • The disbursement was made under the framework of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, which promotes equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of biological resources and associated traditional knowledge.
  • The funds were transferred through the respective State Biodiversity Boards to:
    • Narrau Village BMC, Akrabad Kaul Taluk, Aligarh District, Uttar Pradesh.
    • Lampokhari Lake Area BMC, Aritar, Sikkim.
  • The move strengthens local biodiversity governance, ensuring that communities conserving biological resources receive direct economic benefits.
