Ambaji Marble from Gujarat Secures Geographical Indication (GI) Tag

Marble from Ambaji, a major pilgrimage centre and Shaktipeeth in Gujarat, has been awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for its superior white stone quality.

  • GI Holder:
    The tag has been granted to the Ambaji Marbles Quarry and Factory Association, Banaskantha district, by the Geographical Indications Registry, Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
  • Historical and Cultural Significance:
    • Ambaji’s marble mines are 1,200–1,500 years old, dating back to the period when the Dilwara Jain Temple (Mount Abu) was built.
    • The marble has been widely used in temples across the world — Miami, Los Angeles, Boston, New Zealand, and England.

    • Known for high strength and superior calcium content
