Amit Shah Inaugurates National IED Data Management System (NIDMS)

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah today inaugurated the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) of the National Security Guard (NSG), calling it a next-generation security shield against terrorism.

What is NIDMS

  • NIDMS is a secure, integrated, two-way online national data platform designed to record, analyse and share information related to IEDs and bomb explosion incidents across India.
  • It enables accurate, organised and real-time analysis of terror-related blast incidents.

Coverage and Access

  • The platform is accessible to:
    • National Investigation Agency (NIA)
    • Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS) of states
    • State police forces
    • All Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs)
  • Data from any explosion or IED incident anywhere in the country can be uploaded to the system.

Strengthening Investigations

  • NIDMS draws on the NSG’s database of bomb explosion incidents dating back to 1999.
  • It enables:
    • Pattern analysis of explosions
    • Identification of modus operandi (MO)
    • Study of explosives and circuit methods used
    • Establishing inter-linkages between terror incidents
  • The system provides investigators with actionable guidance across states during probes.

Boost to Counter-Terror Capabilities

  • Shri Amit Shah said NIDMS will help understand national-level trends, link seemingly isolated incidents, and significantly improve terrorism investigation and prevention.
  • The platform is expected to enhance coordination, intelligence-sharing and response precision.

About the National Security Guard

  • NSG was established in 1984 as India’s premier counter-terrorism force.
  • It currently operates regional hubs in:
    • Mumbai
    • Chennai
    • Kolkata
    • Hyderabad
    • Ahmedabad
  • A new hub in Ayodhya is under development, aimed at reducing response time and strengthening rapid deployment.
