Amphotericin-B allocation

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Shri D.V Sadananda Gowda on May 27, 2021 announced that the additional 80,000 vials of Amphotericin-B, used in the treatment for Mucormycosis have been allocated to all the States/UTs and Central Institutions.

About Amphotericin B

  • Amphotericin B which is being actively prescribed by the physicians to patients suffering from Mucormycosis, a post COVID complication.
  • According to Indian Express, treatment with Amphotericin can last 4-6 weeks, require 90-120 injections of the drug, and cost Rs 5 lakh-8 lakh, or even more.
  • Amphotericin is manufactured by Bharat Serums & Vaccines, BDR Pharmaceuticals, Sun Pharma, Cipla, and Life Care Innovations. Mylan imports the drug and supplies in India.
