Key Features of the ‘Apna Ghar’ Initiative:

  • Scope and Scale: As of July 1, 2025, Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have established 368 ‘Apna Ghar’ units, collectively providing 4,611 beds for truck drivers. These facilities are located at retail fuel outlets along national and state highways.
  • Services Provided: The facilities are designed to offer a range of essential services to improve the quality of life for long-haul truck drivers. These include:
    • Dormitory accommodations for rest.
    • Restaurants or dhabas for meals.
    • Clean and hygienic toilet facilities.
    • Dedicated bathing areas.
    • Self-cooking spaces.
    • Access to purified drinking water.
  • Objective: The core objective of ‘Apna Ghar’ is to address the challenging conditions faced by truck drivers, who often travel long distances without adequate rest facilities. By providing these essential amenities, the initiative aims to enhance their safety, reduce fatigue-related accidents, and improve their overall well-being.
