Army Chief Inaugurates ‘Agnishodh’ Research Cell at IIT Madras

Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, recently inaugurated ‘Agnishodh’, the Indian Army Research Cell (IARC), at IIT Madras. This new facility aims to integrate academic research with operational applications, supporting the Army’s modernization and technology infusion goals.

Key Objectives of ‘Agnishodh’:

  • Focus on Self-Reliance: The research cell aligns with the Army’s Five Pillars of Transformation and is guided by the vision of “Swadeshikaran Se Sashaktikaran” (Empowerment through Indigenization).
  • Collaboration and Innovation: Agnishodh will collaborate with the IIT Madras Research Park and other entities, such as the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC) and the Pravartak Technologies Foundation. The focus of these partnerships will be on converting lab-scale innovations into deployable technologies for military use.
  • Upskilling of Personnel: The center will also play a crucial role in upskilling military personnel in emerging technological domains, including:
    • Additive manufacturing
    • Cybersecurity
    • Quantum computing
    • Wireless communication
    • Unmanned aerial systems
