Arunachala Karthika Deepam 2025

Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu saw massive gatherings as devotees arrived to witness the iconic Mahadeepam lighting atop Annamalai hill, marking the peak of the 10-day festival.

Brahmotsavam Festivities Over 10 Days: This year’s celebrations featured an elaborate 10-day Brahmotsavam with rituals, Girivalam (circumambulation of the hill), and grand temple processions at the historic Arunachaleswarar Temple.

Bharani Deepam Lit at 4 a.m.: Festivities began early with the ceremonial lighting of Bharani Deepam inside the Arthamandapam of the main sanctum.

Rituals Led by Shivacharyas: Before lighting the Bharani Deepam, special yajna and rituals were performed by Shivacharyas, marking the beginning of the auspicious day.

Sacred Flame Carried Through Temple: The Bharani Deepam was ceremonially taken through the Vaikunta Vasal and then towards Annamalai hill for the Mahadeepam lighting.

Symbolism of the Eternal Flame: The lighting of Bharani Deepam and Mahadeepam signifies Lord Shiva as the eternal cosmic flame (Annamalai Deepam).

Five Element Lamps Lit: Five lamps representing the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and ether—were lit using the Bharani Deepam and later placed at various shrines within the temple complex.
