Inauguration and Theme

• The Asian Seed Congress 2025 was inaugurated by Union Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Mumbai on 17 November 2025.
• The official logo of the Congress was also unveiled at the event.
• The theme for this year’s Congress is:
  “Sowing the Seeds of Prosperity through Quality Seeds.”

Emphasis on Digital Transformation – SATHI Portal

• The Minister urged all agriculture stakeholders to actively use the SATHI Portal, launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
• SATHI is a national digital platform envisioned to:
  • Build a comprehensive digital ecosystem for the seed sector
  • Monitor seed production and distribution
  • Ensure complete traceability of seeds from origin to farmer
  • Improve transparency and accountability across the seed supply chain

Focus on Climate-Resilient Varieties

• Highlighting India’s vulnerability to climate stress, the Minister stressed the importance of developing climate-resilient seed varieties.
• India’s 15 agro-climatic zones require seed varieties capable of withstanding:
  • Drought
  • Heat stress
  • Pests and diseases
• He emphasized that innovation in seeds will boost productivity and enhance farmers’ resilience.
