Bhairav Light Commando Battalion and ‘Suryastra’ Make Debut at Republic Day Parade

The Bhairav Light Commando Battalion, raised in October 2025, made its first public appearance during the 77th Republic Day celebrations at Kartavya Path. The debut reflected the Indian Army’s evolving combat doctrine and its shift towards a future-ready, agile force structure tailored for modern warfare.

4 BHAIRAV Battalion: Role and Significance
The 4 BHAIRAV Battalion of the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment has been raised to bridge the operational gap between conventional infantry units and elite special forces.

  • Designed for swift, agile and high-intensity combat missions
  • Enhances India’s capability in rapid response, precision operations and complex battle environments
  • Aligns with the Army’s emphasis on mobility, flexibility and specialised combat roles

Suryastra Rocket System Showcased
Alongside the Bhairav battalion, the Universal Rocket Launcher System (URLS) ‘Suryastra’ was showcased for the first time at the ceremonial parade.

India’s First Indigenous Universal Rocket Launcher
Suryastra has been developed as India’s first indigenous universal multi-calibre long-range rocket launcher system. Key features include:

  • Extended ranges of 150 km and 300 km
