Bima Sakhis Yojana

The Union Ministry of Rural Development has forged a significant partnership with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) to advance the Government of India’s ambitious ‘Insurance for All by 2047’ mission.

Key Aspects of the Partnership:

  • ‘Bima Sakhis’ Appointment: Under the financial inclusion initiative of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), trained women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the country will be appointed as ‘Bima Sakhis’ at the Gram Panchayat level.
  • ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ Objectives: This scheme is envisioned as a robust platform for women’s entrepreneurship and financial independence. Its core aims are to:
    • Economically empower rural women.
    • Provide new opportunities for entrepreneurship and income for women becoming ‘Bima Sakhis’.
    • Support the goals of SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and the Lakhpati Didi Mission, which focuses on enabling women from SHGs to earn at least one lakh rupees per annum.
