Brazil to Become First Investor in Global ‘Tropical Forests Forever Facility’

Brazil is set to become the first country to announce an investment in the Tropical Forests Forever Facility (TFFF), a multilateral funding mechanism it has proposed to support the conservation of endangered forests worldwide.

Brazil’s COP30 Vision

The Brazilian government envisions the TFFF as its flagship deliverable at the upcoming U.N. Climate Summit (COP30), scheduled to be hosted in Belém, Amazonia, in November 2025.

Structure of the Facility

  • Planned as a $125 billion fund, the TFFF will blend sovereign and private-sector contributions.
  • It will function like an endowment, providing annual stipends to countries based on the extent of tropical forests they preserve.

Initial Funding Plan

To reach the ambitious target, Brazil aims to secure:

  • $25 billion in initial contributions from governments and global philanthropies.
  • An additional $100 billion from private investors, leveraging the seed funding.

Diplomatic Momentum

Diplomats from several countries have expressed interest in joining the initiative. Brazil’s own investment is expected to catalyze international commitments, helping line up further announcements in the run-up to COP30.
