BRO’s Project Vijayak Celebrates 15th Raising Day in Kargil

The Border Roads Organisation’s Project Vijayak marked its 15th Raising Day with celebrations in Kargil, highlighting its pivotal role in strengthening connectivity and operational preparedness in Ladakh.

Key Achievements

Since its inception in 2010, Project Vijayak has:

  • Constructed and maintained over 1,400 km of roads.
  • Built 80 major bridges across Ladakh.
  • Achieved the record-setting reopening of the Zojila Pass in April 2025 within just 31 days of its winter closure, a first in high-altitude connectivity efforts.

Strategic Role

Raised to link Ladakh’s remote valleys and forward areas with the national mainstream, Project Vijayak has been instrumental in meeting the operational requirements of the Armed Forces while also improving civilian mobility.

Impact on Ladakh

The project’s contributions have enhanced defence preparedness and transformed livelihoods, opening new avenues for trade, tourism, and socio-economic development in the region.
