Centre Seeks ₹2.81 Lakh Crore in Second Supplementary Demands for Grants for FY26

The Government of India has tabled the second Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2025–26 in Parliament of India, seeking approval for 61 grants, including ₹19,230 crore in additional expenditure for fertiliser subsidy.

According to the proposal presented on March 10, the total outlay under the second supplementary demands amounts to ₹2.81 lakh crore. Out of this, the net cash outgo is estimated at ₹2.01 lakh crore, while the remaining ₹80,145.71 crore will be met through savings from ministries and departments or through enhanced receipts and recoveries.

What are Supplementary Demands for Grants?

Article 115 of the Constitution of India allows the government to seek additional funds from Parliament when the original budget allocation for a financial year proves insufficient. These requests are presented as Supplementary Demands for Grants, enabling the government to meet unforeseen or additional expenditure requirements during the fiscal year.
