Centre to Distribute 2.5 Million Free LPG Connections Under Ujjwala Yojana During Navratri

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Monday announced that the Centre will distribute 2.5 million free LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) on the occasion of Navratri. With this expansion, the total number of beneficiary households under the scheme will rise to 10.58 crore.

About Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

  • Launch: May 1, 2016, in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Objective: To safeguard the health of women and children by providing clean cooking fuel (LPG), reducing dependence on firewood and smoky kitchens.
  • Target Group: Adult women from poor households across India.

Benefits Under PMUY

Each beneficiary receives a deposit-free LPG connection covering:

  • Security Deposit (SD) for the cylinder
  • Pressure Regulator
  • Suraksha Hose
  • Domestic Gas Consumer Card (DGCC) booklet
  • Installation charges

Under Ujjwala 2.0, additional benefits include:

  • Free first refill
  • Free stove
  • Targeted subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2 kg cylinder (up to 12 refills annually; pro-rated for 5 kg connections)
