Darjeeling Mandarin Orange Gets GI Tag

The ‘Darjeeling Mandarin Orange’ has been officially granted a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, with the GI Registry formalising the status on November 24, 2025. The Darjeeling Organic Farmers Producer Organisation (DOFPO) has been registered as the proprietor, while Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (UBKV) and PIC facilitated the application process.

    Following the GI recognition of Dalley Khorsani, the Darjeeling Mandarin Orange becomes the second product from the region to receive the prestigious tag.
  • Unique Qualities of the Fruit
    Locally known as ‘suntala’, the fruit is grown exclusively in the cool, misty hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
