Defence Forces Vision 2047

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 10 March 2026 released the document “Defence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military.”

  • The vision document has been prepared by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff.

Objective

  • The roadmap aims to transform the Indian Armed Forces into a modern, integrated and technologically advanced force by 2047, marking the centenary of India’s independence.
  • It aligns with India’s broader ambition of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Key Focus Areas

  1. Strategic Reforms
    • Structural and policy reforms to address emerging geopolitical and security challenges.
  2. Integrated and Multi-Domain Operations
    • Development of an integrated, agile and multi-domain military capable of operating across land, sea, air, cyber and space domains.
  3. Greater Jointness Among Services
    • Enhanced coordination and synergy among the Army, Navy and Air Force in planning, operations and capability development.
  4. Technology and Innovation
    • Increased emphasis on advanced technologies, modern warfare systems and innovation-driven military capability.
    • Strengthening modern training systems for future warfare environments.
  5. Self-Reliance in Defence
    • Promotes indigenous defence production in line with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
    • Encourages development and deployment of domestically produced military platforms and technologies.

Implementation Strategy

  • The roadmap proposes a phased approach, identifying:
    • Short-term priorities
    • Mid-term goals
    • Long-term capability development
