Defence Minister inaugurates Shyok Tunnel in eastern Ladakh

On 7th December 2025, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh dedicated to the nation 125 strategically important infrastructure projects of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) from Ladakh, marking the largest number of projects inaugurated simultaneously.

  • Key Project – Shyok Tunnel:
The event took place on the Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldie Road at the Shyok Tunnel site. The Shyok Tunnel, a 920-metre cut-and-cover engineering feat, is constructed across one of the world’s most challenging terrains to provide all-weather, reliable connectivity to this critical border region.
  • Strategic Importance:
This tunnel will enhance security and mobility, enabling rapid deployment of troops and supplies especially during severe winters characterized by heavy snowfall, avalanches, and extreme cold conditions.
  • Galwan War Memorial:
Shri Rajnath Singh also virtually inaugurated the Galwan War Memorial in Ladakh, paying tribute to the extraordinary bravery, commitment, and sacrifices of Indian Armed Forces personnel.
