Doubling of target of Lakhpati Didis to 6 crore

The Government of India has achieved a major milestone by crossing 3 crore “Lakhpati Didis”—women Self-Help Group members earning at least ₹1 lakh annually—more than a year ahead of the March 2027 target. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now set a new goal of 6 crore Lakhpati Didis by March 2029.

What is the Lakhpati Didi Initiative?

The initiative is part of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme run by the Ministry of Rural Development with States and Union Territories (except Chandigarh and Delhi).

Objective

To empower rural women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by enabling them to:

  • Earn ₹1 lakh per year sustainably
  • Maintain ₹10,000+ monthly income for at least four agricultural or business cycles

The focus is on individual SHG women, while SHGs, Village Organisations (VOs), and Cluster Level Federations (CLFs) lead planning and implementation.

Key Features

  • Skill development and entrepreneurship training
  • Financial literacy support
  • Convergence with multiple government schemes
  • Seed funding and capacity building through DAY-NRLM
  • Additional credit through bank linkage and loans

There is no separate budget for Lakhpati Didi; activities are funded under DAY-NRLM.
