DRDO, Indian Navy successfully test indigenous ADC-150 from P-8I aircraft

The Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Navy successfully conducted four in-flight release trials of the indigenous Air Droppable Container (ADC-150).

  • The trials were carried out between 21 February and 1 March 2026 from a Boeing P-8I Poseidon off the coast of Goa.

About ADC-150

  • ADC-150 is an indigenously designed air-droppable logistics container capable of carrying payloads up to 150 kg.
  • It is intended to air-deliver supplies to naval ships operating far from the coastline.

Operational Role
The system can deliver:

  • Essential equipment
  • Critical operational stores
  • Medical supplies and emergency assistance

This capability will enable rapid logistics support for ships in distress or operating in deep-sea areas, where conventional resupply routes may be difficult.

Development

  • The project was led by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam.
  • It served as the nodal laboratory for the development programme.

Significance

  • Strengthens the Indian Navy’s operational logistics and maritime support capabilities.
  • Demonstrates indigenous defence technology development within a short timeframe.
  • After successful developmental flight trials, the ADC-150 is expected to be inducted into the Indian Navy soon.
