DRDO successfully flight-tests MPATGM with top-attack capability

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted a flight test of the indigenously developed Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) with top-attack capability against a moving target, marking a major milestone towards its induction into the Indian Army.

The third-generation “fire-and-forget” missile was tested on January 11 at the KK Ranges in Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra. The trial was carried out by DRDO’s Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad.

The MPATGM is equipped with advanced technologies, including an Imaging Infrared (IIR) homing seeker, all-electric control actuation system, advanced fire control system, tandem warhead to defeat modern armoured protection, a high-performance propulsion system and a sophisticated sighting system. The successful test validated the missile’s accuracy and effectiveness in engaging moving armoured targets in top-attack mode.

The missile system can be launched from a tripod-mounted launcher as well as from a vehicle-mounted platform, providing operational flexibility across varied battlefield conditions.

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) are the development-cum-production partners for the MPATGM.

The successful flight test represents a significant step in strengthening India’s indigenous anti-tank warfare capabilities and advancing the objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat in the defence sector.
