Election Commission Completes Special Intensive Revision in Bihar Ahead of Assembly Polls

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar has been successfully completed ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

  • Final Electoral Roll: Made available on 1 October 2025, containing 7.42 crore electors.
  • Changes from Draft Roll:
    • Draft roll: 7.24 crore electors
    • Additions: 21.53 lakh new electors
    • Deletions: 3.66 lakh ineligible electors removed

Legal Backing & Authority:

  • SIR is conducted under Article 324(1) of the Constitution, which gives the Election Commission of India (ECI):
    • Superintendence, direction, and control of elections
    • Authority over preparation and maintenance of electoral rolls
