  • India ranked 71st out of 118 countries in the Energy Transition Index (ETI) released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
  • The index evaluates countries on:
    • Current energy system performance
    • Readiness of enabling environment

Key Global Rankings

  • Top 5: Sweden (1st), Finland, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland
  • Other notable rankings:
    • China: 12th (best ever), due to innovation and clean energy investment
    • USA: 17th, strong energy security and improved sustainability
    • Pakistan: 101st
    • Congo: Lowest rank (118th)

Global Trends

  • Overall ETI scores in 2025 rose by 1.1%, more than double the previous 3-year average.
  • Improvement attributed to:
    • Lower energy prices
    • Subsidy reforms
    • Increased clean energy share
    • Decline in energy and emissions intensity

India’s Performance

  • Progress seen in:
    • Energy efficiency
    • Investment capacity
  • Marked improvement in energy equity and sustainability
