EnviStats India 2025: Environment Statistics

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the 8th issue of “EnviStats India 2025: Environment Statistics.” The release took place during the National Workshop on Using Alternate Data Sources and Frontier Technologies for Policy Making on June 5, 2025, in New Delhi.

Trends in Energy and Production (2013-14 to 2023-24)

  • Thermal Power Generation: Increased from 7,92,053 GWh to 13,26,549 GWh.
  • Renewable Energy Generation: Increased from 65,520 GWh to 2,25,835 GWh.
  • Inland Fish Production: Increased from 61.36 lakh tonnes to 139.07 lakh tonnes.

Temperature Changes (2001 to 2024)

  • Annual Mean Temperature: Rose from 25.05°C to 25.74°C.
  • Annual Minimum Temperature: Rose from 19.32°C to 20.24°C.
  • Annual Maximum Temperature: Rose from 30.78°C to 31.25°C.

Faunal Species Diversity

  • Global Marine Faunal Species: 2,47,605 species.
  • India’s Marine Faunal Species: 20,613 species.
  • India’s Freshwater Species: 9,436 species.
  • India’s Mangrove System Species: 5,023 species.
  • India’s Estuarine Ecosystem Species: 3,383 species.
  • India’s Soil Ecosystem Species: 22,404 species.
  • Total Global Faunal Species: 16,73,627 species.
  • Total Faunal Species in India: 1,04,561 species.

EnviStats India Publication Series

  • Since 2018, the National Statistics Office (NSO) has been publishing “EnviStats India.”
  • The publication aligns with the Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics (FDES) 2013.
