Exercise AUSTRAHIND 2025

The fourth edition of Exercise AUSTRAHIND 2025 began on 12 October 2025 in Perth, Australia, and will conclude on 26 October 2025. A 120-member contingent from the Indian Army is participating, led by a Battalion of Gorkha Rifles along with troops from other arms and services.

  • Objective of the Exercise:
    • Enhance military cooperation between India and Australia.
    • Improve interoperability and coordination between the two armies.
    • Provide a platform to exchange tactics, techniques, and procedures, particularly in sub-conventional warfare in urban or semi-urban terrain.
  • Focus Areas:
    • Conduct joint company-level operations in open and semi-desert terrain.
    • Undertake missions involving joint planning, tactical drills, and special arms skills.
    • Hone operational capabilities, integrate emerging technologies, and practice joint combat operations.
  • Significance:
    • Strengthen defence cooperation between India and Australia.
    • Foster camaraderie and mutual understanding among participating troops.
  • Outcome Expected:
    • Enhanced strategic and operational synergy in counter-insurgency and sub-conventional warfare scenarios.
    • Preparation for future joint military operations and technology integration in combat environments.
