Exercise Kalari Leap

The Southern Air Command of the Indian Air Force successfully conducted a high-tempo joint maritime exercise named ‘Kalari Leap’ in the Lakshadweep and Minicoy archipelago.

The exercise was aimed at validating joint planning, rapid force projection, and precise operational execution in complex maritime environments. 

Focus on Maritime Preparedness

‘Kalari Leap’ tested Southern Air Command’s capability to:

  • Undertake rapid force projection in island territories
  • Execute precision strikes in maritime scenarios
  • Operate seamlessly in a multi-agency framework

The drills reinforced readiness in safeguarding India’s island territories and surrounding sea lanes. 

Multi-Agency Participation

The exercise saw participation from:

  • Armed Forces Special Operations Division
  • Indian Coast Guard

Coast Guard ships, Gemini boats, and Dornier 228 aircraft were deployed alongside Indian Air Force assets, demonstrating integrated operations. 

Key Operations Conducted

Major components of the exercise included:

  • Anti-ship strike simulations
  • Maritime search and rescue (SAR) operations
  • Joint air-sea coordination drills
