Exercise “LAMITIYE-2026″

An Indian Armed Forces contingent has arrived in Seychelles to participate in the 11th edition of Joint Military Exercise “LAMITIYE-2026” with the Seychelles Defence Forces.

  • The exercise is being conducted at the Seychelles Defence Academy from 09–20 March 2026.

About the Exercise

  • ‘LAMITIYE’ means “Friendship” in the Creole language.
  • It is a biennial training exercise held in Seychelles since 2001.
  • The 2026 edition is significant as it marks the first time participation from all three services of the Indian Armed Forces.

Indian Participation

  • The Indian contingent includes personnel from the Assam Regiment.
  • Participation also includes assets from the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force.
  • Key assets involved:
    • INS Trikand
    • Lockheed Martin C‑130J Super Hercules

Key Activities

  • The 12-day exercise will include:
    • Field Training Exercises (FTX)
    • Combat discussions and tactical planning
    • Case studies and lectures
    • Demonstrations of military operations
  • The exercise will culminate in a two-day Validation Exercise to test operational coordination.

Significance

  • Enhances interoperability and operational coordination between the Indian Armed Forces and the Seychelles Defence Forces.
  • Strengthens India’s defence cooperation and maritime security partnership in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
  • Reinforces India’s role as a net security provider in the region.
