Exercise MAITREE 2025

The 14th edition of the India–Thailand joint military exercise MAITREE-XIV commenced with an opening ceremony at the Joint Training Node (JTN), Umroi, Meghalaya. The exercise is being conducted from 1st to 14th September 2025.

Strengthening Military Ties
The bilateral exercise is part of the ongoing military-to-military exchange programme between India and Thailand. It aims to enhance cooperation, interoperability, and mutual understanding between the Indian Army and the Royal Thai Army.

Participation and Focus
The Indian Army contingent, comprising 120 personnel from a Battalion of the Madras Regiment, is participating in the exercise. The joint drills will focus on company-level counter-terrorist operations in semi-urban terrain under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.

Background
The 13th edition of Exercise MAITREE was held at Fort Vachiraprakan in Tak Province, Thailand. Instituted in 2006, the exercise has become a key platform for joint training and defence cooperation between the two nations.
