Finland President Alexander Stubb Pays State Visit to India

At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, paid a State Visit to India from 4–7 March 2026. This was President Stubb’s first visit to India in his current capacity.

During the visit, both countries held high-level discussions and signed several agreements to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.

MoUs Signed

India and Finland signed the following Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs):

  1. MoU on Migration and Mobility Partnership
  2. Renewal of MoU on Environmental Cooperation
  3. MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Statistics

Key Announcements

Both sides also announced several new initiatives:

  • Establishment of a Consular Dialogue between the respective foreign ministries.
  • Co-hosting of the World Circular Economy Forum 2026 in India, organised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Finnish Innovation Fund SITRA.
  • Strengthening startup collaboration through the Indo–Finland Startup Corridor.
  • Creation of a Joint Task Force on 6G technology to enhance future telecommunications cooperation.
  • Target to double bilateral trade by 2030, building on opportunities arising from the India–EU Free Trade Agreement.

Strategic Upgrade of Relations

Both countries agreed to elevate their bilateral relationship to a “Strategic Partnership in Digitalization and Sustainability.”
