India hosting the first-ever Capacity Building Programme on UNSC Resolution 1540 and Strategic Trade Controls for the Asia-Pacific underscores its strong commitment to global non-proliferation efforts.

Key Highlights

  • Collaborators: Government of India & United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA)
  • Location: Andhra Pradesh, India.
  • Participants: 24 government experts from 8 countries (Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iraq, Lao PDR, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand).
  • Objective: Strengthen implementation of UNSC Resolution 1540 (2004), which mandates. preventing non-state actors from acquiring nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons.
    • The resolution requires all States to adopt and enforce appropriate laws to this effect as well as other effective measures to prevent the proliferation of these weapons and their means of delivery to non-State actors, in particular for terrorist purposes.
