First-Person View (FPV) Drones

The Russian Defence Ministry reported that Ukraine launched FPV drone attacks on five airbases in the Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions.

What are FPV (First-Person View) Drones?

  • Small drones with front-facing cameras.
  • Transmit live video to goggles worn by the operator, giving a cockpit-like view.
  • Originally used for racing and hobbies.
  • Now adapted for military use, particularly by Ukrainian forces.

Military Advantages:

  • Highly maneuverable—can fly through tight spaces and over rough terrain.
  • Manually guided—allows for precise targeting.
  • Often equipped with explosives, making them kamikaze drones that detonate on impact.
  • Effective in targeting tanks, military vehicles, and trenches.
