Foodgrain output projected at record levels in second advance estimates for 2025-26

The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has released the Second Advance Estimates of production of major agricultural crops for 2025–26.

Overall Foodgrain Production

  • Kharif foodgrain production: 1,741.44 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT)
  • Rabi foodgrain production: 1,745.13 LMT

Year-on-Year Growth

  • Kharif: Increase of about 46 LMT (2.8%) compared with 2024–25.
  • Rabi: Increase of about 53 LMT (3.2%) compared with last year.

Estimation Method

  • The estimates are based on:
    • Data provided by States/UTs
    • Remote sensing inputs
    • Crop weather monitoring
    • Yield data from Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs).

Major Crop Production Estimates

Rice

  • Kharif rice: 1,239.28 LMT (up from 1,227.72 LMT in 2024–25)
  • Rabi rice: 167.20 LMT

Wheat

  • Estimated at a record 1,202.10 LMT, an increase from 1,179.45 LMT last year.

Nutri / Coarse Cereals

  • Kharif maize: 302.47 LMT (record)
  • Rabi maize: 159.03 LMT (record)
  • Total Kharif nutri/coarse cereals: 425.89 LMT
  • Total Rabi nutri/coarse cereals: 213.41 LMT

Millets (Shree Anna)

  • Kharif: 123.43 LMT
  • Rabi: 30.98 LMT

Pulses Production

  • Tur (Arhar): 34.55 LMT
  • Gram (Chickpea): 117.92 LMT
  • Lentil: 17.33 LMT

Oilseeds Production

  • Kharif oilseeds: 265.33 LMT
  • Rabi oilseeds: 144.65 LMT
