Franz Edelman Award

India’s Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) has been selected as one of the six global finalists for the prestigious 2026 Franz Edelman Award for its innovative initiative, “Anna Chakra.”

Anna Chakra is an operations research (O.R.)–based decision support system designed to strengthen India’s Public Distribution System (PDS) by optimizing state-specific logistics and supply chain operations. The initiative aims to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance the timely movement of food grains across the country.

The project has been developed in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in India and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Other finalists for the 2026 award include major global organizations such as Chewy, NVIDIA, Google, Microsoft, and ECCO Shoe.

Widely regarded as the “Nobel Prize of Operations Research and Analytics,” the Franz Edelman Award honors the world’s most impactful and high-value applications of advanced analytics.

Being named among the top six global finalists places Anna Chakra on the international stage as a leading example of analytical innovation in public systems, government reform, and large-scale logistics optimization, highlighting India’s growing role in applying advanced analytics for public service delivery.
