GI-tagged Karbi Anglong Ginger Exported to London

Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora flagged off the first export consignment of GI-tagged Karbi Anglong Ginger to London.

This marks the first time that ginger from Karbi Anglong district has been exported to the international market. The consignment was sent to London, signalling a new beginning for the district’s farmers.

Boost to Farmers

Karbi Anglong ginger is known for its superior quality, strong aroma, and high fibre content. The export marks a significant milestone for Assam’s agricultural sector, especially for farmers in the Karbi Anglong district.

The product has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, which:

  • Certifies its unique geographical origin
  • Ensures authenticity and quality
  • Enhances its market value in domestic and international markets

Strengthening Agri-Exports

The move is expected to improve farmers’ incomes and promote Assam’s indigenous agricultural products globally. The GI certification adds brand recognition and protects the product from imitation, helping build consumer trust overseas.
