Global Teacher Prize 2026

Indian educator Rouble Nagi was awarded the Global Teacher Prize 2026 during the World Government Summit, receiving the USD one million award in the tenth edition of the prestigious global honour.

The award was presented by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The Global Teacher Prize is presented by GEMS Education and organised by the Varkey Foundation, in collaboration with UNESCO, during the annual World Government Summit.

Rouble Nagi was recognised for her innovative efforts to transform neglected walls into interactive educational murals, using art to teach reading, writing and arithmetic, along with crucial lessons on public health and environmental awareness. Over the past two decades, she has helped integrate more than one million children into formal education by employing art as a powerful educational tool, particularly for marginalised communities.

She was selected from over 5,000 nominations and applications across 139 countries, highlighting the global impact and recognition of her work.

The Global Teacher Prize honours exceptional educators who have made outstanding contributions to the teaching profession and demonstrated the power of education to transform lives and societies worldwide.
