Google Announces $15 Billion Subsea Cable Investment Linking India and US

At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, tech giant Google announced a $15-billion investment over five years to expand digital connectivity between India and United States of America.

The initiative, called America-India Connect, aims to strengthen global data infrastructure and support AI-driven growth.

New Subsea Gateway in Vizag

As part of the project, a new international subsea cable gateway will be established in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), boosting India’s global internet connectivity and digital resilience.

Expanded Global Connectivity

The initiative includes:

  • Three new subsea cable routes linking India with
    • Singapore
    • South Africa
    • Australia
  • Four strategic fibre-optic routes to improve domestic and international data transmission.

These upgrades will increase capacity for AI, cloud computing, and digital services.

Focus on AI Infrastructure

The project aims to enhance AI connectivity by improving data transfer speeds and reliability between India, the US, and southern hemisphere regions.

Better subsea cable infrastructure is crucial for:

  • Cloud services
  • AI model training and deployment
