Google Announces USD 15 Billion AI Hub in Visakhapatnam

Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw hailed the upcoming Google AI Hub in Visakhapatnam as a “transformative step” for India’s digital future.

Investment Scale:

  • Represents Google’s largest investment in India to date.
  • Valued at USD 15 billion over five years (2026–2030).

Infrastructure Details:

  • A purpose-built data center campus with gigawatt-scale compute capacity.
  • Developed in partnership with AdaniConnex and Airtel.
  • Focus on AI infrastructure, renewable energy integration, and fiber-optic network expansion.

Connectivity Initiative:

  • Proposal for a Vizag–Sittwe (Myanmar) digital link to enhance North-Eastern state connectivity.
  • Complements the existing RailTel network under the Viksit Bharat Vision.

Subsea Gateway Development:

  • Construction of a new international subsea gateway in Visakhapatnam.
  • Multiple subsea cables to land at Vizag, linking to Google’s global network of over two million miles of terrestrial and subsea cables.

Significance:

  • Expected to accelerate India’s AI ecosystem, boost digital infrastructure, and position the country as a key node in global data connectivity.
