Government Approves Tex-RAMPS Scheme to Boost Research and Innovation in Textiles

On 27 November, the Central Government approved the Textiles Focused Research, Assessment, Monitoring, Planning and Start-up (Tex-RAMPS) scheme, a major initiative to enhance research, innovation, and competitiveness in India’s textile sector. The scheme will operate as a fully funded Central Sector Scheme under the Union Ministry of Textiles, with a total outlay of ₹305 crore for 2025-26 to 2030-31.

• Future-Proofing the Textiles Ecosystem
Aligned with the upcoming Finance Commission cycle, Tex-RAMPS is designed to “future-proof” India’s textiles and apparel ecosystem by addressing long-standing gaps in research, data systems, and innovation support. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh highlighted that the scheme combines research, data, and innovation to position India as a global leader in sustainability, technology, and competitiveness.

• Focus Areas: Research, Innovation, and Data Systems
The scheme will promote advanced research in smart textiles, sustainability, process efficiency, and emerging technologies. It also aims to develop robust data systems, including employment assessments, supply chain mapping, and the India-Size project, supporting evidence-based policymaking.

• Integrated Textiles Statistical System (ITSS) and Capacity Building
A key feature of Tex-RAMPS is the Integrated Textiles Statistical System (ITSS), a real-time analytics platform for structured monitoring and strategic decision-making. The initiative will also strengthen capacity at the State level, disseminate best practices, conduct training workshops, and organise sectoral events to build a robust textiles knowledge ecosystem.
