Government launches intensified NCD screening campaign

The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has launched a special Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) screening drive.

What’s the Goal?

  • 100% screening coverage for individuals aged 30+.
  • Early detection of diabetes, hypertension, and common cancers (oral, breast, and cervical).
  • Runs from Feb 20 – March 31, 2025.

How Will It Work?

  • Door-to-door outreach by trained healthcare workers.
  • Screening at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) and healthcare facilities.
  • Real-time data tracking via the NP-NCD Portal for better monitoring.

About Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)

  • According to WHO Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), also known as chronic diseases, tend to be of long duration and are the result of a combination of genetic, physiological, environmental and behavioural factors.
  • Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) cause 74% of global deaths, disproportionately affecting low- & middle-income countries.
  • Early detection & treatment can reduce complications and improve quality of life.

Impact:

  • Could significantly reduce the burden of chronic diseases in India.
  • Aims to improve public health infrastructure and health awareness.
