Henley Passport Index 2025

India has improved its standing on the Henley Passport Index 2025, climbing eight places to 77th rank from its 85th position last year. This rise comes as the number of countries offering visa-free access to Indian passport holders has marginally increased to 59 destinations.

Understanding the Henley Passport Index:

  • What it is: The Henley Passport Index is a prominent global ranking that measures the strength of a passport by the number of destinations its holders can visit without requiring a prior visa.
  • Data Source: The index ranks countries based on statistics provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), ensuring comprehensive and reliable data.
  • Purpose: A passport is a government-issued document that allows an individual to travel overseas. The index essentially reflects a country’s diplomatic relations and travel freedom.
